God’s Will For You

God's Will For You

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 — Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

People often wonder about God’s will for them. When they ask about God’s will they typically are thinking of how God is guiding the hidden directions of their lives. They want to know where their life is taking them.

God’s will is not just those hidden things. It is also the things he has revealed in His Word. God’s will is laid out in his commands. His law is God’s explicit, holy will for our lives. God’s will is laid out in his gospel. God wants all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. God’s will is your salvation. God’s will laid out in Scripture is that you live under him in his kingdom and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness. God’s will is that you remain secure in your faith no matter what troubles we face in a fallen world.

When we are wondering where life is going and when we are praying to God over earthly circumstances asking Him to guide them a certain way, God has us return to His Word where His will for us is laid out. In Jesus Christ God’s ultimate will for you is laid out — HIs will to bring you home to heaven, no matter what the route through this world. Knowing God’s will for us in Jesus gives us reason to always rejoice even in trials. It gives us reason to always trust God and show it through our prayers. It gives us reason to give thanks in all those earthly circumstances.

Knowing God’s will is to save us and love us unconditionally for eternity and give us life everlasting and knowing this is what is guiding all of God’s hidden activity, this is what leads us to pray “Lord, Your Will Be Done”.

Peace in Jesus,
Pastor John Gensmer
