Call Upon Our Lord — A Devotion

by Abiding Love
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” Psalm 50:15
Just a few weeks ago we were all doing our everyday routines that we have down to every minute of every day. We did the same things day in and day out–wake up, do our morning devotion, rush to get the family ready and fed to start the day and get caught up in the normal rush of everyday life, then all of a sudden it stopped.
As we sit at home hearing the news of this virus that is sweeping our nation very quickly and taking lives, our everyday routine just went from something we knew to something we don’t and our lives started changing. We were told to stay home as much as we possibly can, practice social distancing, while schools closed, events were cancelled, businesses were shutting down. Panic and fear entered everyone’s lives.
But wait! What if instead of going day-by-day with fear and anxiety, we do just what God tells us to do, call upon Him in times of trouble. As His children, we should always be calling upon Him every day in the bad and good times. He wants us to. God has His hands over us in these troubling times, we just need to stop, breath and listen to Him. We don’t deserve to be able to call on Him in time of trouble but yet He still tells us to, He still wants us to. God listens to us and delivers us for the sake of His son. What comfort that is, knowing that our Heavenly Father loves us so much even though we don’t deserve it.
This time being at home with our families is a blessing because it gives us the time to focus on what is important, life-saving important–HIM. And as we devote more of our time to our relationship to Him, He promises to strengthen us and enable us to face whatever difficulties may come our way.
Heavenly Father, it is only you who can calm our hearts and rescue us in these troubling times. I ask you to put your hands over our nation, your children, and calm the storm that is happening. Help us all to use this time to glorify you as you strengthen us with your sure promises of Life in Christ. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
